We know you’ll be successful because you’ve taken the first step in expressing interest in the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University of Science and Technology.

If you’re visiting this site, you probably received an email from me, Michael Bugeja (Boo-SHAY–ah).

I am honored to direct one of the finest faculty and staff in the country and to help support our teachers, practitioners and researchers so that they can train, educate and enlighten the next generation of communicators reporting, creating and designing across platforms.

That would be YOU.

I not only will introduce myself and the Greenlee School to you through this blog. You’ll end up introducing yourself to each other–high school and transfer students from all areas of the United States and world.

And the world, in a literal sense, is our beat. We create and communicate using state-of-the-art technology at the Greenlee School and generating content that serves the public, from voter to consumer.

Journalism is the watchdog over government; but advertising feeds the hounds.

And inbetween those academic degrees you’ll learn public relations, broadcasting, photojournalism, videography, multimedia and something else–something few similar schools offer–science communication.

Our students not only cover and create campaigns about climate, food, water, health and energy; they understand the science of those terms. And that understanding gets them jobs or graduate assistantships quicker than graduates of most other schools.

Better yet, our rigorous but streamlined curricula will save you and your parents money. You’ll graduate sooner than most other majors at Iowa State and especially counterparts at out-of-state institutions.

If you’re an out-of-state prospect, especially in Illinois or Minnesota, our tuition rates compete with your in-state rates because we’re a land-grant university–the first in America, as a matter of fact–dedicated to providing access to any student willing to climb that success ladder.

You’re on the first rung. There are three more: apply, accept, commit.
